Let’s Get Local: A Cup of Giving

Start your day off right with a visit to Upbeat Café- Georgetown’s only fully operating café. Filled with beautiful art pieces, made-from-scratch dishes, and delicious coffee, this café is sure to be one you will forever remember. Located in Historic Downtown Georgetown, this local spot gives off a true coffee shop vibe perfect for a business meeting, solo brainstorming session, reunion with an old friend, or busy school day getaway.

Christy Mann, owner and coffee connoisseur at Upbeat Café, was born and raised in Georgetown, Kentucky. Although she did venture out, studying abroad in England where she met her husband and business partner, Al, she made her way back to her hometown after living away for 6 months. Georgetown was a no-brainer when determining where to settle down, so the Manns returned to Kentucky and started both their family and Upbeat Café.

“Starting a café was always kind of a dream”, said Christy. “Being back in the city I grew up in and owning my own business is everything I could have hoped for.”

But Upbeat Café is more than just a café. One of the first things you will notice when entering is the unique Ugandan art scattered throughout. The Mann family has a special connection with Uganda, for Christy’s sister started an orphanage and school to help the children in the area. In an effort to help give back, the Mann family has made Upbeat Café both a café and a crusade to help support the children of Uganda. Majority of the art located within the store was made in Uganda, with 100% of its purchases going back to help support the orphanage and school Christy’s sister started there. They also believe in getting the people of Georgetown involved through mission work, sending a group of locals to Uganda once a year. And for those who wish to support in other ways, you can help sponsor the Ugandan child the Mann family has assisted for 11 years.

“They aren’t just a café,” says Emily Metcalfe, dedicated customer of Upbeat Café. “You can tell they are passionate about something bigger than their business and that’s what makes supporting them a bonus to their already delicious offerings.”

Not only does Upbeat Café have an incredible purpose, their food and drinks are more than worth the drive downtown. Every month there’s a new-featured drink special- a fun way for people to branch out and try different coffee concoctions. But for those who prefer the standard pick-me-up, their mochas and French vanilla lattes are sure to astound. Getting hungry? No problem! The Upbeat Café has an appetizing food selection including their popular ham, turkey, or roast beef Panini’s, and you can’t forget about their famous cappuccino chocolate chip muffins. The real deal is their Trio Lunch, allowing customers to try 3 of their 18 delicious dishes, with favorites being the chicken salad, and romaine and fruit salad.
