GEORGETOWN, KY – AUGUST 24, 2017 – Four venues with locations in Georgetown, KY, have been awarded “Best In Kentucky” plaques by Kentucky Living magazine. This annual contest, sponsored by the magazine, invites readers to select what they consider to be the very best in Kentucky in a number of categories, including best tourism attraction, family getaway, music festival, arts and crafts fair and more. All finalists were announced by magazine staff beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24, during a celebration at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville. Detailed coverage will be featured in the magazine’s September issue.

Each of the four venues was the first place winner in its category:
   •  Country Boy Brewing – Best Craft Beer
   •  Georgetown Antique Mall – Best Antique Store
   •  Red State BBQ – Best Barbecue
   •  Whispering Woods Riding Stables – Best Agritourism Site

Owned by Jeff Beagle, Evan Coppage, Nathan Coppage and Daniel Harrison, Country Boy Brewing’s Georgetown location – a newly opened taproom – immediately established itself as a key draw on the local nightlife scene. The Lexington-based Red State BBQ, which had a location called Red State Taps in Georgetown until March of 2017 when the restaurant was destroyed by fire, had amassed a slew of awards for its secret-recipe barbecue.

The Georgetown Antique Mall has been around for over 40 years and is known for its vast and eclectic array of antiques and collectibles for all budgets. Whispering Woods Riding Stables backs up its boast about “no ring rides” by providing riders with 250 acres of wide open range where they can “feel like a real cowboy or cowgirl.”

Published by the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives, Kentucky Living is the largest-circulation publication in the state, with a readership of about 1 million readers and a circulation of more than 475,000 homes and businesses. The “Best In Kentucky” coverage is among the magazine’s most highly anticipated features.

Located in Kentucky’s Bluegrass, Horses, Bourbon and Boone region, Georgetown has a number of major attractions, including the Kentucky Horse Park, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Tour and Old Friends Retirement Thoroughbred Farm. It is known for its historic downtown, charming small-town ambience, hands-on farm experiences and a lively locally-owned restaurant and shopping scene.

Upcoming events include the Toys for Tots Fireman’s Chili Cook-Off, Sept. 7; the family-friendly Festival of the Horse, Sept. 8-10; Seed to Feed culinary events, Sept. 8 and Oct. 6; and Autumn Fest at Bi Water Farm & Greenhouse (called the “Disney of central Kentucky farms”), Sept. 9 through Oct. 31. Other activities: tours of Ward Hall, scheduled the first two weekends in September and October; a downtown sidewalk sale on Sept. 16; and the semi-annual Oxford Antique Market, with three dozen antique dealers, also on Sept. 16.
