When you need cake (or quesadilla), it's More Than Cake
The url for this website says it all: “ineedcake.com.” And who doesn’t need cake? (Or gourmet cookies, pies, breads or cupcakes, for that matter?)
But aptly named More Than Cake isn’t just about the sweets. This house of
lusciousness in downtown Georgetown also serves up plenty of savories: breakfast biscuit sandwiches, wraps and quesadillas, pitas stuffed with cranberries and curry sauce and other yummies and so much more.
“We pride ourselves in being a leader in the industry,” said owner Leshia Rainwater-Clark. “We offer custom-baked goods that can accommodate most dietary needs and are one of the only restaurant/cafés in Georgetown that offers a true vegan menu of items.
Vegan or other, this restaurateur knows her way around a menu. Before opening More Than Cake, Leshia spent years developing her own cache of recipes. She opened Perfect Harmony Catering/Bakery, then decided to enroll in culinary school at Louisville’s Sullivan University, ranked as one of the best culinary schools in the United States. Here, Leshia became part of the school’s award-winning pastry team and won several medals in ACF (American Culinary Federation) accredited competitions on her way to graduation. Following graduation. Leshia realized it was time to expand her catering business and voila – More Than Cake was born
In addition to baked goods, the shop also offers an aromatic selection of coffees, made-from-scratch soups, salads and sandwiches and hearty breakfasts that have
customers raving about them. Wedding cakes and themed cookies for baby showers and other occasions are a specialty.
More Than Cake’s most requested soup is its famous chicken and dumplings, a bowl of warm, nourishing comfort that has customers spooning up every drop. Breads for sandwiches – everything from a BLT to a plant-based burger to Kentucky fave, the Hot Brown sauced with the shop’s special cheese gravy – are freshly baked. The bakery is the only one in downtown Georgetown to have teamed up with Boar’s Head for its selection of premium deli meats.
“We also have full scale eat-in and outdoor dining areas,” said Leshia.
Although More Than Cake is currently closed for onsite dining, Leshia hopes to reopen in the near future. In the meantime, the dining room is being updated to keep customers and staff safe and healthy.
And, you can still enjoy some of the bakery’s goodies. Leshia noted that More Than Cake is taking orders for special-request baked goods for curbside pickup.Among the offerings are special occasion cakes, cookies, pies and breads.
