Buffalo Gals Barn Quilt Trail
Double Wedding Ring, Carpenter’s Wheel, Star of the Bluegrass. Follow the Buffalo Gals Quilt Barn Trail to see a cornucopia of traditional and contemporary patterns that adorn barns, yards and fences across the county.
The trail unfolds along country roads, past historic farms with barns old and new and alongside fields where cows and horses graze, corn ripples and wildflowers bloom. The colorful wood squares are pieces of history preserved as roadside Americana folk art—each of which tells a story of a community’s heritage through this needle-arts tradition.
Get your Barn Quilt Trail map here or get additional routes/information by contacting the Georgetown/Scott County Tourism Office & Visitor Center. Please be respectful: The barn quilts are located on private property.

Elkhorn Creek
Elkhorn Creek brings the adventure—canoeing, kayaking, floating and fishing—but doesn’t forget about the scenery. It is one of Kentucky’s loveliest and longest and most paddled streams, undulating along a curving shoreline, beneath the historic Switzer Covered Bridge and past rock bars and water willow beds.
Providing 17 miles of adventure, two forks of Elkhorn Creek join east of Frankfort and continue through Scott County and to its end at the Kentucky River. Drop a line for smallmouth bass (Elkhorn is considered one of Kentucky’s best smallmouth bass streams) as well as largemouth bass, rock bass and bluegill.
