Geocaching Trails
Treasure hunters are rewarded in Georgetown/Scott County with three geocaching routes, including the new African American Heritage Geotrail. Geocachers visit sites including the Milton Cabin in Royal Spring Park, the century-old Rosenwald Academy and the Old Georgetown Cemetery—the final resting place of several Buffalo Soldiers—earning a commemorative coin in the process. Download the tour HERE.
On the Scott County GeoTrot!, adventurers find their way to the hidden treasure on the grounds of three major Georgetown attractions, including Old Thoroughbred Retirement Farm, Ward Hall and Country Boy Brewing, along with other sites. Download passport/tour HERE.
In Stamping Ground, treasure seekers follow the Historic Buffalo Geotrail and learn about the site of the wedding of outlaw Jesse James’ parents, a local who became a legendary World Champion croquet player and Great Crossing Park, where the deer and the buffalo roamed centuries ago, on their way to uncovering the caches. Download passport/tour HERE.
Join the hunt! Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting activity that uses GPS coordinates to locate hidden geocache containers. These house customized trinkets for geocachers to collect or replace and a rubber stamp to mark the geocache location. GeoTrails are designed hunts featuring specific locations or attractions that are oftentimes unfamiliar to geocaching participants. Trails are typically recorded on the geocaching.com app or with a designated GeoTrail passport. Visit www.geocaching.com to learn more about the world’s largest treasure hunt.
