Georgetown & Scott County Museum
This free-admission museum preserves and celebrates the community’s history through exhibits and programs. Among treasures located inside the historic 1915 Post Office building are the original mailboxes lining the wall; Reflections of the Stamping Ground Tornado, part of the historic Super Outbreak Tornado of 1974; and the DeWitt Collection, showcasing the precision model of the “DeWitt Clinton” locomotive, tender and three stagecoach-style passenger cars constructed of cast aluminum, brass, hammered steel sheets and wood.
And then there is the fan favorite exhibit on Pete the Famous Talking (some would say notorious) Crow, who made a lasting impression even though he lived in Georgetown for only three years. Pete’s claim to fame? His ill-timed squawk that confused racehorses during his three-year reign of trackside terror in the 1800s.

The Museum is open for free, Wednesday – Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment.
