Royal Spring Park
Then: It was here, at Elijah Craig’s fulling mill on the banks of Royal Spring, where Georgetown’s town founder first used charred oak barrels in the bourbon aging process—one that imparts that beautiful caramel color and complex, mellow deliciousness to America’s only Native Spirit. Voila—The Birthplace of Bourbon!
Now: A place of peace and beauty, Royal Spring Park shelters two historic cabins, including a log cabin built in 1874 by Milton Leach, a former enslaved person who built the cabin with recycled chestnut logs, a mortar-free stone foundation, mud for the massive chimney and old ash boards for the floor. Located across the street from Local Feed Seasonal Kitchen + Craft Bar, the park has a large picnic shelter and decks overlooking the spring and grounds.
The picnic shelter may be rented for special events through Georgetown-Scott County Parks & Recreation here.
